Best-in-Class Operations 38 Top management appointments and cutting-edge facility development are set to propel HKUST and its supportive campus environment to fresh levels of excellence LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENTS READY TO STEER THE FUTURE Internationally renowned Hong Kong scientist Prof. Nancy Y. IP was appointed HKUST’s fifth President in May 2022. The appointment, which marks the first time that a woman will take the helm of a university supported by the University Grants Committee, takes effect from October 19, 2022. Prof. Ip, The Morningside Professor of Life Science, is a globally acclaimed molecular neuroscientist and recognized expert in Alzheimer’s disease. A highly accomplished researcher, she has been elected to numerous academies and professional bodies worldwide, among them the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Sciences. She is also the recipient of a host of prestigious awards and honors, including the National Natural Science Awards and the L’Oréal- UNESCO for Women in Science Award. In addition to being an eminent scientist, Prof. Ip has established a distinguished career as a university administrator, contributing to HKUST’s development by holding many different senior management roles, including Vice- President for Research and Development and Dean of Science. With her deep knowledge and in-depth understanding of the University, Prof. Ip will lead the HKUST 2.0 journey that the University is embarking on, which will strengthen HKUST’s impact and recognition as an academic and research powerhouse, and accelerate its contribution to society as a leading center of knowledge transfer and innovation.
