39 HKUST Annual Report 2021-2022 In a second key management appointment, Prof. Tim CHENG Kwang-Ting took up the post of Vice- President for Research and Development from April 1, 2022. Prof. Cheng is a leading scholar in the fields of electronic design automation and computer vision and recognized internationally for the wide- reaching impact of his work. He has held many leadership roles over the course of his academic career, driving cross-disciplinary research collaboration and knowledge transfer. He has also been highly active in offering professional advice and services to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), of which he is a fellow. Before assuming his current position, Prof. Cheng was Dean of Engineering at HKUST for six years, making significant contributions to both research and education. In his new role, Prof. Cheng is keen to deepen HKUST’s engagement and collaboration with industry and society, and to explore ways to further raise the University’s R&D profile and global impact.
