49 HKUST Annual Report 2021-2022 Awards and Recognitions STUDENTS AND RESEARCHERS • Life Science undergraduate WONG Hoi-Lam won the First Runner-up prize at the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute Case Competition 2022. • The HKUST Robotics Team received the Best Design Award at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest and First Runner-up and Best Engineering Awards at the Robocon Hong Kong Contest. • Computer Science and Engineering undergraduates CHUNG Tsz-Wa, Caner DEMIRER, TANG Wing-Yin , and Data Science and Technology student CHAN Sheung-Chi won the Gold Award in the Hong Kong Cyber Security New Generation Capture the Flag Challenge 2021, organized by the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre and Hong Kong Productivity Council. • Electronic and Computer Engineering PhD students Murad ABDULLAH and Syed Awais Wahab SHAH , along with Civil and Environmental Engineering PhD students Muhammad Zeshan AKBER and Muhammad WAQAR , received the Gold Award in the Global AI Challenge for Building Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) Facilities – AI Competition. • Four business undergraduates Neha GANAPATHINEEDI , Gaurav GARG, Kevin HUERLIMANN , and MacKenzie KORENT won the short case competition in the Belgrade Business International Case Competition (BBICC) 2022. • Justin CHAN Pak-Hin , Departments of Accounting and Finance, secured the Champion title in Ernst & Young’s Young Tax Professional of the Year 2021 (Greater China Final). • A Division of Environment and Sustainability student team, comprising Yuvina TSOI, Alice CHAU, Yvonne CHAN and Katie FUNG , won the Placemaking Academy 2022 Championship, organized by Swire Properties. HKUST MEDALS • Prof. Jeevan JAISINGH , Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management, was awarded the Michael G. Gale Medal for Distinguished Teaching. • Prof. Kenneth LEUNG , Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received the HKUST Common Core Teaching Excellence Award 2021 for the course COMP2711 Discrete Mathematical Tools for Computer.
