Event Highlights 2021-22 50 2021 OCT Five distinguished individuals were awarded an HKUST Honorary Fellowship at the first in-person presentation ceremony since the pandemic. The occasion was officiated by Council Chairman Mr. Andrew LIAO Cheung- Sing and President Prof. Wei SHYY. SEP The HKUST Musical took place at Freespace in the West Kowloon Cultural District, featuring students and alumni in a zesty production of Leonard Bernstein’s Wonderful Town. More than 1,000 people either attended or participated in the event. AUG At a webinar co-hosted by HKUST and Our Hong Kong Foundation, Mr. XIE Zhenhua, China’s Special Envoy on Climate Change, shared national plans and initiatives on achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. JUL The HKUST Institute for Advanced Study held a Meet the Quantum Computers display, giving visitors hands-on experience of a prototypical quantum computer and information on how quantum computing will improve on classical computers and algorithms. NOV Fintechstic 2021, a series of online and physical activities organized by the HKUST Business School, drew over 400 local university students and participants from the wider community to learn about robo-advisors and related technologies. Activities included an online quiz challenge, training workshops, and a case competition.
