51 HKUST Annual Report 2021-2022 DEC The University resumed its in-person Congregation at the newly opened Shaw Auditorium, conferring 2,552 bachelor’s degrees, 2,506 master’s degrees and 308 doctoral degrees, bringing HKUST’s alumni network to 87,500. JAN The China-Russia Eurasian Studies Center (CREC) and Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS) launched the “CREC-IEMS Eurasia Business Dialogue” series to discuss how contemporary policy and socio-economic issues are affecting the business landscapes of China, Russia, and Central Asia. The first dialogue was focused on “Curbing Capitalism: How Is Economic Policymaking in China Changing?” and associated issues. MAR More than760participants fromover31countriesand region competed in hackHKUST 2022, the largest event of its kind in Greater China and a sought-after event for university students globally. The online competition provided over 40 awards, involving over HK$1 million in prizes and internship opportunities. APR In The Power of Diversity – Artistic Visionaries From HKUST, four alumni showcased their creativity under the theme “Together We Empower”. Works in the exhibition explored the power of passion, following your dreams, and being the best you can be. The display also illustrated how the collective is more important than the individual. MAY Among the University’s 30th Anniversary events, students, staff and alumni were invited to join the HKUST Virtual Run 2022, the first event of its kind for University members. Participants were set the challenge of individually completing a total distance of 30km or 100km (walk, hike or run) either in one go or over a period of time. 824 completed the virtual run. JUN A movie screening of “All-Star Tiny Galaxy@ Wontonmeen” was held at the Shaw Auditorium followed with a talk by Hong Kong Sinfonietta (HKS)’s CEO and Concertmaster. The movie featured international stars performing together with HKS’ musicians at Wontonmeen, an eclectic hostel in Sham Shui Po. 2022 FEB IAS and the School of Humanities co-organized a Chinese Creative Writing lecture series from February to May 2022, enabling students to engage in face-to-face dialogue with 13 world- renowned writers. Over 2,600 people attended the lectures.
