24 Lab to Market Transforming Applications into Impact Through Knowledge Transfer Knowledge transfer of researchers’ discoveries and breakthroughs plays an essential role in generating economic and societal innovation. As a Hong Kong university pioneer in innovation and entrepreneurship, HKUST has long invested in its knowledge transfer infrastructure, building up a comprehensive ecosystem and team that facilitate and nurture the University’s entrepreneurial spirit and culture while remaining robust, resilient and responsive to changing times. By June 2024, the success of our approach had led HKUST members to found 1,815 active start-ups, including 10 unicorns and 14 exits (IPO or M&A), along with multiple knowledge transfer partnerships with industry, government, and community organizations.
