26 Lab to Market Record-Breaking Achievements at Geneva Inventions Exhibition Thirty-six HKUST teams joined the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, winning 36 awards for their innovations and setting new University records. Recognitions included the Prize of the Chinese Delegation for Invention and Innovation, four Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, and a host of gold, silver, and bronze medals. University-related projects spanned biomedical and health, IT and AI, smart construction, and sustainable and new energy, among others. Twenty-four of the inventions have generated start-ups. Energizing the Economic Outlook The University teamed up with Wisers AI to launch the city’s first tourism index, providing forecasts of key tourism metrics based on a predictive model of Mainland travelers’ intentions regarding Hong Kong. The model uses cutting-edge AI technologies to provide a series of predictive tourism indices, overcoming the limitations of traditional surveys’ insights and delays in industry statistics. Invigorating Entrepreneurial Bonds With networking and openings for academic-industry exchange playing important roles in start-up sustainability and adoption of innovation, the University continued to forge knowledge transfer bonds with the wider community and alumni. The second edition of HKUST’s annual Unicorn Day in May 2024 expanded to showcase over 100 cutting-edge technologies spanning electronics, AI and smart systems, materials, energy and sustainability, and biomedical and healthcare to over 1,300 diverse attendees.
