9 I am pleased that our collective endeavor culminated in a historic milestone in late 2025 with the HKSAR Government’s approval to establish the HKUST School of Medicine (SMED). This achievement realizes a dream first envisioned at our University’s founding and powerfully embodies our community’s bold, “can-do” spirit. It marks a transformative milestone not only in our institutional history but also for the future of medical education in the region. With a view to nurturing more outstanding medical practitioners and promoting Hong Kong as an international medical training, research and innovation hub, as outlined in the Chief Executive’s 2024 Policy Address, our medical school is founded on the core vision of pioneering an interdisciplinary model of education, integrating cutting-edge science and technology with clinical excellence. We extend our profound gratitude to the HKSAR Government for its visionary support and to all the experts, partners, and colleagues for their invaluable contributions.
