HKUST Annual Report 2024-2025
30 HKUST ANNUAL REPORT 2024-25 The Daniel and Mayce Yu Research Building, which reached its structural topping-out in June 2025, will be dedicated to life and chemical sciences upon its scheduled completion in Q4 2026. We are also developing a next-generation computing facility, poised to become one of the most energy-efficient data Centers in Hong Kong. The eight-story HPC5 building will include the city’s largest liquid immersion cooling system which can enhance computing performance while reducing energy consumption by over 80%. CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER LEADERSHIP HKUST has further strengthened its holistic knowledge transfer ecosystem to translate our research into societal impact. This year, we celebrated 25 years of leadership in campus start-up innovation, a legacy that began with our Entrepreneurship Center—the first university-based hub of its kind in Hong Kong when it launched in 1999. This pioneering work has cultivated over 1,900 active HKUST-related start-ups, including 10 unicorns and 17 exits (via IPO or M&A). Today, the Center incubates 80 to 100 start-ups annually through its comprehensive support program that guides them from ideation and prototyping to implementation and commercialization. 1,900 Active Start-ups 10 Unicorns 17 Exits (IPO or M&A)
