42 HKUST ANNUAL REPORT 2024-25 PICKING UP STEAM WITH FUTURE TALENTS Cultivating enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) among those yet to reach university age is another valuable way that HKUST builds bonds with the wider community. Leveraging our expertise and innovative educational approaches, we hosted a series of lively events to encourage interest in STEAM over the year, involving thousands of primary and secondary school students in problem-solving, hands-on learning, and creative thinking. Among key activities, STEAM Day@HKUST drew around 2,000 participants over three days, featuring project demonstrations and game booths covering topics such as robotics, digital art, electronic circuits, gliders, windmills, genetics, and more. Meanwhile, STEAM in Summer offered competitions, interactive booths, DIY workshops for around 300 students and teachers. ART TECH AND TRADITION SPARKING INSPIRATION Art tech connections were further strengthened at the inaugural HKUST AI Film Festival, the first 100% AI-focused movie gala in Greater China. The event drew over 700 AI-generated films frommore than 80 countries and regions, with 35 selected by an international jury panel. A screening at the Shaw Auditorium awarded Best Film to Memory Maker by Emmy-nominated storyteller Nik KLEVEROV. A related forum, attended by 600 academics, industry practitioners, and cinephiles, explored AI’s impact on the film industry and was held alongside the Computational Visual Media Conference hosted by HKUST for the first time in Hong Kong. 1st 100% AI-focused Film Festival in Greater China
